Problems with Emulator

| ..I'm trying to get into programming for smartphones (more specifically the
mpx200). I have downloaded the SmartPhone 2003 SDK. I can see the
Smartphone option when creating a new smart device application. My problem
comes when I start the application (F5) which should start the emulator
(Smartphone 2003 Emulator (Virtual Radio)) but instead I get a message "There
were deployment errors. Continue?" Which takes me nowhere. I searched in
Google for possible fixes and the best I could find was to go to
Tools/Options/Device Tools/Devices and make sure the emulator was installed.
Which is it. The thing is that when I click on the Emulator and click on
"Connect" I get "Cannot establish a connection. Be sure the device is
physically connected to the development computer." I know the phone is
connected because I can synch information with other apps (Exchange Server,
etc).
Is it an emulator issue? If so, how do I address it?
Thanks for your assistance.
