Can't install apps - unsigned certificate.
|
|
|
| I have a Nextel i930 (Motorola) running windows smartphone 2003 OS. When i
try to install any apps on it, i get an error message on the phone that says
"the program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally
signed with a trusted certificate". These are just little freeware apps
from places like Handango.
I'm using MS activesync 3.8 on XP Pro (SP2).
Does anyone know how to get around this?
Thanks in advance!

|
| How do "application unlock" a Nextel i930? I'm in the U.S., Beverly MA.

be unlocked if i don't have to. To be continued...

| Nextel transferred me to Motorola. They claim that the security settings
can't be changed and i can only install apps that are digitally signed with
a certificate already on the phone. I'm sure there must be a way to get
around this.

| Jim,
I'm not sure:
However if it means un-lockig the phone some of the links I gave you do NOT
require you to send your phone out, you can do it at home...
Hans W
PS Don't you just loved it when the phone companies screw you to the ground
by locking "your equipment"
That's why I purchased an unlocked MPX220, and used Cingular as a service
provider. T-Mobile will also accept unlocked phones, and like Cingulkar they
leave them unlocked.

| I hope you aren't conusing application lock with SIM/Network/Carrier/IMEI
lock. Here is a decription, taken from an earlierthread (9/25/2005: How to
Delete an Undeletable...). You can try the same solution.
"Application Lock is a carrier-imposed security setting that prevents the
installation of digitally unsigned third-party software. Removing this
restriction allows you to install any app that you are willing to trust, and
you must rely on other security measures to shield out malware.
Metrotropical's Smartione Registry Editor (used remotely, over AS
connection) has excellent features for checking and toggling the setting, but
you must create a login in a French-language forum to download the utility
[http://www.metropical.com/smartphon...php?showtopic=6]. I did
this on my first MPx220 from AT&T, the replacement phone had no app lock in
place. Windows other security settings are unaffected, and I haven't had any
problems managing third-part software."

| Once you are logged in, the Télécharger / To download : Smartione icon near
the bottom of the linked page will open a Téléchargements page with a zipfile
of the lateset release, and an installer pacakge, both pinned at the top.

| Jim,
I then ran FILE -> SECURITY -> CHECK.
The reply was:- "Your smartphone is unlocked :-) "
Sounds liek you need to dump Nextel, buy yourself an Un-locked phone and
use a service that will respect your needs.
Clearly Netxel is not doing that.
Best regards

| Unfortunately i get my mobile phone through my company. As it was i
practically had to beg the telecom admin to let me get the i930. We have
strict corporate rules about no camera phones in the building, but i
promised to keep the camera disabled and lens covered at all times.
...And yes, it is quite obnoxious to lockdown something I PAID FOR and OWN.
It's like buying a car only to find out that the manufacturer restricts what
roads you can drive it on.
