Greetings, some of you may have heard this from me already if you spend time
on #ruby-lang.
I am the developer of the Zen Linux LiveCD distribution. I'm currently
considering moving the
entire code base to Ruby in a single re-write effort. Essentially this would
involve a core team
of Ruby developers re-writing the existing framework from scratch in Ruby.
The current
code base while stable is horrible to maintain and i'd like to create
something that is easier
for people to approach and contribute to. If you are a ruby developer (all
skill levels welcome)
and would like to take part in this project please let me know, you can
reach me via
zenlinux@gmail.com, i'd be very interested in hearing from you and seeing
what you have
to contribute.

Thanks in advance,

/rm

This is a very interesting project. I see that you currently use Perl.
I agree that Ruby has the potential to make the code much more
managable.

So what do these scripts generally do? And how does this project
compare to RubyX (Heritix?).

For those unaware, the Heretix home page is at www.h-e-r-e-t-i-x.org

It is moving along, though the lead maintainer is currently busy doing
some construction projects. It is a good proof of how well ruby scales
to different domains. Heretix does have the ability to build live cds
also... The main problem is that it is a long shot from being Debian
compatible so I don't see it directly helping the Zen Linux project as
is.

Brian.
