Problem with opening msaccess files in Open Office
|
|
|
| It seems that Open Office will open MSAccess files but unfortunately
there seems to be a problem with the password. I've checked that the
pw is OK in MS Office/Access but it isn't accepted when I try to open
the data file in Open Office.
Has anyone got a workaround for this?

If you open up MS Office/Access and clear the Admin password, such that it no
longer prompts you for a password, you will probably be able to view the data in
Open Office.
Hope this helps!

Just as an aside, I opened an M$ Word document with OOffice. Everything
seemed fine. I then saved it in Word format. Well, information DID get
screwed up as the warning said. The page numbering was wrong, and there is a
mysterious blank page I couldn't get rid of.
It's better to PICK one package, and stay with it. This going back and forth
stuff is for the birds.

| Many thanks to all. Problem arose with friend changing software and
data from an old computer, with pre-loaded software (MS office) and no
backup disks. Seemed a good opportunity to wean them off MS and on to
Open Office. The simple solution of removing the password whilst
working with the old computer just hadn't occurred to me - dowh. :(

What other nice things can you tell us about Open Office, in response to the
OP's question about passwords?

It has other limitations too.

That's a fool's answer, Pete, you know better than that. All software has "other
limitations".
