| I have been a Unix/Linux user for many years and have used quite a lot
of Opensource software, big and small. Two of the bigger ones (not
counting Linux) were Mambo CMS and Asterisk digital PBX. In setting up
both systems, we went through a lot of difficulties in:
- getting the right conbination of software modules, revisions, etc
- getting the right advice (plenty were coming, but not many were
useful)
- getting adequate documentation (almost none in some cases)
We persisted for w s, and eventually both systems were up and running
well. After trying out many different things along the way, we did not
have a clear records of what have been done. Now it is a scary thought
about upgrading the Linux OS or the applications to the latest
revisions.
Perhaps our experience is not alone. How do people deal with situations
like this?
