New here, and have some questions

| Hello, this is my first post in this ng.
I'm gradually switching to open source software for everything on my
WinXP system. For now, I plan to stay with WinXP since some specialized
resources are only available in the Windows format.
I've gone to Seamonkey (the ongoing Mozilla project) for mail, ng, etc.
I like it just fine. And I've switched to OO2 for my wp, etc. Also
pretty good, but sometimes a little slow.
I need a really good pim, and can't find one in the open source
community. The big hang up is the inability of any of them to print
envelopes from their address books. I'm now using the freeware version
of Time and Chaos, and it's great, but it doesn't have a notes capability.
I don't suppose anyone knows of a really full-featured pim in open source.
Thanks.

What do you mean, it doesn't have notes capability? Click on an appointment,
contact or todo item, then press the control (Ctrl) key down and while holding
that down, press the "N" key. (Ctrl+N)

I don't yet know of an open source PIM that is *better* than Time & Chaos v5 or
v6, that will run under Windows as opposed to Linux.
I was a registered user from, I think, version 3+. Braden Pintar showed me how
to hack it so that it wouldn't expire in 23 days, this led me to evaluate it for
three months. Once I was sure I liked it, I registered for a license.
!! I haven't looked too closely at JPilot, but if you have a Virtual environment
for Linux, it may serve your needs. !!

Yes, I can attach a note to any of those things, but I mean a separate
note capability, like Outlook has. I use it, for example, to save
serial numbers, to keep track of medicines I'm taking, etc. That kind
of thing.

Thanks for the ideas. The folks at Time and Chaos released a previous
version as freeware, and it's served me pretty well. I did look around
at other options, but none did what I needed.

I use the non-opensource "Treepad" in Windows for this. It also runs under WINE
on Linux. There is supposed to be a Linux Lite version, but when I downloaded
it, I couldn't get it to run on my Linux machine running SUSE 9.3.

Yes, I've looked at it, and it's pretty good. Perhaps I'll go that route.
Thanks.
