Author Video Editing alternative?

Hello, I am looking for an Open Source alternative of, say Adobe
Premier. I do not want something really sofisticated, just to be able
to cut/paste scenes to compose a video, mix sound and some other basic
things.

As far as I know, maybe VirtualDub would do, but it is not available
for Linux and OS X and I am looking for a program that is available in
those OS as well as Windows.

Does anybody knows a good alternative??

Thanks!

Omar.
