vector Quantization of speech signals.

| Hi,
I am a masters student learning speech processing. i am still at the
basics.
My project is "Vector Quantization of Speech Signals". Do I need to
learn LPC first for this topic. Am I quantizing the LPC coefficients
using Vector Quantization method?
Can somebody guide me pls.
