Hello, comp.compression!

| I'm new here. I come from talk.origins, where I got a recommendation
that you have some netkooks on this newsgroup. Can you tell me their
names, so I can be sure not to miss their posts? Thanks!

One problem here in compression is it is sometimes hard to tell the
con-artists from the kooks.
Jules Gilbert of example has for over more than eight years claimed to have
software that can do things that are mathematicly impossible, refused to
release a copy of the software because others will steal it according to him,
and always has some excuse why he can't demo the software whenever people
want to add some controls to prevent cheating. Note: He was always willing
to demo with only *HIS* controls on cheating (ie he hires a cop to come to to
the demo - this proves he is not cheating).
However, for the last two years or so he has started to demand a couple of
thousands of dollars upfront before he will run a demo - and he still does
not want you to carry out any anti-cheating controls.
For the first years he clearly went from a person with a mistaken idea to a
kook. But now? Is he still a kook who is also trying to make some money off
his 'impossible' software, or has he come to realize his software does not
work but now has gone the con-artist route in a bid to make money off those
who don't understand compression?
You will just have to read his messages and make up your own mind.

| A fishy post, but I'll go for it anyway as I have nothing better to do.

If you want a real winner, go over to comp.programming, where there is this
one guy who is in constant debate with several regulars. That guy is a
real piece of art, having spawned (well, not himself) new words such as
Nilgewater, emoti:-), and so on.
But anyway, why don't you browse the archives, to see what you can find ?
They didn't invent google for nothing, you know.

Look around the newsgroups for MC Shampoo. I don't think he's posted
here, but he does claim to have invented the ultimate compression
among many other comical things.
