Author RARs Inadvertently Saved as DOS 8.3 filenames!!??
phil6666

2004-06-10, 3:55 pm

I mistakenly had Agent 1.93 set to rename saved RARs as DOS 8.3
filenames.

For example:

"Movie Eps 08.part13.rar" (*/12)

Shows on my harddrive as:

Movie_Dev.rar

The next one, "Movie Eps 08.part12.rar" , saved as:

Movie_De1.rar

QuickPar 0.8 identifies these as proper, but WinRar 3.30 can't extract
these. QuickPar doesn't successfully rename them...

I've got some old RARs that I'd like to "fix," but haven't had much
luck using text editors to get the right part#. (I did ascertain the
correct file & movie name!)

Is there a way for WinRar to convert these to their "original" names
and part #s?

thnx

If you are looking for a program to rename your files take a look at
PentaSuite, there is a tool in that suite that is called PentaRename
and should be able to help you out. www.pentaware.com

Good luck!

Hi-

I looked at this program, but my real problem is that these are RAR
files and they are incorrectly named with the DOS 8.3 convention and I
really need them in PAR2 format so that WinRar will work. (I need the
correct WinRar name & number...)

Any ideas?

Is there a different group to inquire in?

thnx

No, but request next time that the files be created with RAR 3.40,
currently in beta, as it stores the volume numbers inside the
archives, which is exactly the functionality you want.

Just re-leech the files off of Usenet if they got corrupted -- you did
it once, you can do it again :-)
