I am running Visual Source Safe version 8.
I want to search a project (and all subprojects) to see if it contains
a file of a specific name.
Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan

Yep.

Select the root project. From the menu, select View -> Search -> Wildcard
Search. Select the "Search in current project and all subprojects" option.
