Author how can i convince VS 2005 that the device emulator *is* installed?

this issue that we have (i.e. the Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition not
detecting that the Device Emulator is installed) is a real show stopper for
us.

we have not been able to get any help from anyone on that, and the only
advice we got of re-installing VS 2005 beta-2 does not work unless someone
would be nice enough to send us an activation key that works for the
so-called "Windows CE 5.0 Evaluation Version" CD's - because naturally we
have un-installed VS 2005 beta-2 before installing Visual Studio 2005
Standard Edition, so we don't have the key anymore and since beta-2 has
expired, MSFT does not give keys for this package anymore.

But the best solution would be to somehow workaround the problem and either:

1) find a way to convince the Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition setup that
the Device Emulator has been correctly installed - since it does install it,
then later when it builds the UI for the application, something called
DepCheck does not see it:
VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft Device Emulator version 1.0 is
not installed.

or

2) find a way to change the "Target Menu" (maybe by editing the registry or
some database) so that all the Device Emulator Images with Windows Mobile
5.0 are selectable when a Windows Mobile 5.0 platform is selected.

could anyone help, or steer us in the right direction.

i've already spent 2 days on that, and i'm still not capable of deploying on
emulator images anymore, and it's a real problem for us.

You probably have done this already..but from my experience moving from
VS2005-Beta2 to VS2005 Professional. I just uninstalled _each and
every_ little thing VS2005 Beta2 installed, uninstalled the whole eVC
and SDK's, .Net framework (betas). and then ActiveSync too. Then
installed one at a time according to the order mentioned somewhere in
one of the articles on MSDN. Also, uninstall anything you installed to
make Beta2 to connect to your device/emulator. Hope it helps.
