Help! MS Visual Interdev is messed up
|
|
|
| Perhaps another MS Visual Interdev user can help me figure out how to fix
this. For some reason the Design and Quick View tabs are gone from my IDE.
I can't switch to Design or Quick View anymore. I'm stuck in the editor.
While I don't use the Design tab much I REALLY miss the Quick View tab. But
now all tabs are gone. When this started I also noted that all of my ASP
code is now displayed with a yellow highlight and intellisense isn't working
anymore. It used to be that just the <% and &> tags were highlighted in
yellow. Now all .asp code is blocked out in yellow. Clicking the reset
button on the Options screen under Font and Colors doesn't change it.
Does anyone have any idea how this got broken or how to fix it? I've tried
going through all of the settings and options but can't find anything...

|
| Forgot to mention: I'm using Visual Studio 6.

| This happens when the default editor has been changed from "HTML Editor" to
the "Source Code (Text) Editor".
To correct: right click on the asp file --> Open With --> Chose "HTML
Editor" and then click on the button "Set as Default"; close the window
and then reopen your file.

| Thanks but that doesn't change anything. The problem isn't that the file
isn't opened in Visual Studio. It is that Visual Studio (regardless of how
I open it) no longer has the Design or Quick View tabs in it. And the
intellisense is not working anymore.

| I was talking about Visual Studio: there are two different source code
editors in VInterdev and it is quite possible that you may have switched the
default editor to be used with ASP pages. By right clicking, I meant
right-clicking on the file in the VS Project Explorer.

| OK, I tried that but it closed the editing window. When I re-opened the
..asp file in Visual studio it brought up the Open With dialog, erased the
"(Default)" next to HTML Editor and waited for me to specify which to use.
It is as if the HTML Editor no longer is on my system...

| I have VI6 on WinXP Pro installed on my machine with all the latest service
packs, I use it regurlarly and I don't have this problem; so I suspect that
you may have some sort of corruption problem in the registries or a
virus/trojan lurkings around.
If I were you, I would make a full virus scan and if possible, I would
restore my system to an earlier point of time by using either the Restore
function of WinXP or a backup.

| Unfortunately, I don't have any restore points dating to before the problem started so I can't do that. I've already scanned my hard drive for viruses and spyware but found nothing. I expect nothing short of a reformat will fix this problem.

| Maybe you have change the ASP meta tag at the top of the page? It is still something like:
<%@ Language=VBScript %>
What happens if you create a blank new .asp page?

| Same thing with a new .asp page. Save thing for HTML files. This isn't an .asp only problem. The software won't display the tabs regardless of what file I'm editing. The problem is the same for plain vanilla .htm files.
