| Now that VSS 2005 has entered beta 1, I'm curious to know what others thing
about it. It is a vast improvement of the 6.0d product? Are there any nice
featuers for Visual Studio 6.0 developers or standalone DBAs?
I'm frequently use VSS on my laptop because of the speed issues with using
it over a WAN. I assume its web services interface makes this much better?
What are the requirements and is their a web admin and notification system
built in to e-mail users when there are VSS changes?
Finally, since I'm not an MSDN subscriber, I ordered their Visual Studio
2005 beta 1 CD-ROM today. I'm wondering if someone has the VSS 2005
someplace that I could download in advance while I wait.
Any help or opinions would be appreciated -- I'm really excited about seeing
the new VSS!

| Even the first version of VSS 2005 (V 8.0) I got in the first CTP said Beta
2, but the newest CTP version is quite different. For many functions 8.0 is
superior to 6.0x; search the posts for the LAN issues. On the other hand, the
first few analyzes you due will take quite a bit longer, since the error
detection and correction is MUCH better. That said, stick with the first
version for a while before moving to the latest, otherwise you'll lose all
faith in the 6.0x versions (and your production code db). There are many new
options/errors in the latest build, I'm still trying to get the explanations.
