Author Printing across a LAN in VB.Net

I am trying to develop a test program for a printer that we service at my
employer. The original printer was serial only, the new version uses a LAN
port, serial port or MAC serial port. I know the printer control characters
and label format strings, but I need to incorperate a LAN connection in the
existing program. What objects should I add to my form and how do I interact
with these objects to add the printer, scan the network for these printers
and disconnect from them. I will not have a server, but will be peer to peer
communicating with them.
