Author multiple(2) instcances of vs2005 - system gets very slow

if i run two instances (tried it with the final vs2005 c++ express version
and the final team suite 2005) my Windows XP prof.(32-bit) gets very slow. if
i click on the explorer or iexplorer, i have to wait several seconds before
the gui respondes. i have to log off and in to solve the problem. any
solution yet?

system:
athlon 64 x2 4400+
2gb ram
