Slow response and lockups on project open

| Hello--
I just installed VS 2005 Standard Ed. (from the launch) and, in the open
project window, if I try to use the dropdown list to browse to a file path,
the dropdown list disappears for up to a minute before reapearing with a path
tree. If I monkey with anything else while this is going on, it is likely to
lock up.
This is a Pentium 4 @ 3.0 ghtz with 1.5 G RAM.
I don't see anyone else reporting this, but any ideas?
Thanks,
Chas

| I had the same problem. I tracked it down to the fact that I had a network
share that wasn't connected properly (I hadn't entered the username and
password).
Once I connected to the share properly, all my problems went away. Maybe
you have a similar problem?

| I can verify that the problem appears to be with a network share.
I had a mapped network drive to a computer that is not currently turned on. After disconnecting the mapped drive everything sped up to normal.
FYI, the program actually doesn't freeze even though you may think so because you may get the "Not Responding" text in the title bar. IF you wait long enough it will eventually come back.
There have been problems with the file open dialog drop down list bogging down for years. I am unimpressed that it still has not been fixed and in fact the dialog browse has somehow been made worse! | |

| Thanks for the responses.
There was in fact a network glitch--which I think I fixed, but the file-open
drop-down is still incredibly slow.
The fix (on my machine/net at least) seems to be: don't use it.
The "My Computer" icon on the left of the same window opens a view at normal
speed, with all the connected and disconnected network drives showing.
I donno why....
Thanks,
Chas
