Author Format Document Strips Whitespace from xsl:text

I'm using Visual Studio 2003, and I have a problem with the Format Document
option: it appears to strip whitespace inside my xsl:text elements.

e.g.

<xsl:text> </xsl:text>

will become

<xsl:text></xsl:text>

Does anyone know if I can prevent this while still using the Format Document
option?

Thanks,
- Lee
