| Not sure where the problem lies, but I have noticed on several PCs running
Win2K and WinXp that the mouse pointer will occasionally cause the screen to
scroll up as it shoots to the bottom of the page. It happens so randomly
that I thought it was a dirty mouse but I have talked to several colleagues
and they have all seen the same effect - each thinking like me that it must
be a problem unqiue to their PC.
I believe the root cause is the mouse wheel (all meece are marked as
Microsoft, and includes physical and optical tracking types). I have also
noticed another side effect - the mouse wheel will suddenly behave as if it
has been pressed as a middle mouse button. Pressing the mouse wheel again
then solves the problem, cancelling the fast move mode. Needless to say it
is very disruptive to work flow when the document or spreadsheet suddenly
scrolls to the far right or bottom edge of a document.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there an obvious solution? Is it a known
"feature" even?
All I can confirm is that it applies to various Microsoft mice with wheels -
probably all running Intellipoint but I am not absolutely certain -on a
variety of Dell and Gateway machines running Win2K and XP with latest
Service Packs, both at work and home. Some but not all have the latest
DirectX 9.0b installed and all the mice are clean.
