VS.NET 2003 Stops Responding after Build

I've just installed VS.NET 2003 on Windows XP (SP1). The installation ran
without problems. When I try to build a very simple Windows application
using VB.Net, the build succeeds, but then the application doesn't run
(i.e., its window never appears.) If I check in Task manager, the JIT
compiler is listed among the running processes, as is the application EXE,
but the IDE just stops responding.

Has anyone else had these problems? I've gotten the same results both on my
laptop and on my desktop machines. Bizarre. Any help much appreciated.
Nothing in the MSDN KB seems to be of any help.
