Need Help With IIS / ASP / FPSE - New Visual Studio User

Hi....

I just purchased and installed Visual Studio 2003 on my XP (Home, not
Professional)
machine, and I'd like to do some of the exercises in the walkthroughs within
the VS help topics,
and later on, start developing some simple applications with VS.

Since I have the home version of XP, i can't install IIS (or SQL
server, for that matter).
Are there any sites in the net where I can have access to IIS and SQL Server
without paying
to host a website? I'm using Visual Studio purely as a learning tool, and
don't have access
to a machine I can run the server software on.

Any suggestions ?

Hello,

SQL Server Evaluation Edition, and SQL Server Developer Edition can be
installed on Windows XP Home. MSDE can also be installed on this OS.

Instead of IIS, you can use the free webserver Cassini, see link below.

I don't think that any hosting companies support development on their
servers, because that usually uses too much resources on the server.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought that you could only install packages like SQL Server
and IIS on a Windows SERVER machine, not on Windows
Professional, and certainly not on XP Home edition. Is this
true for the full version of SQL and IIS, but not true for
developer and evaluation versions ?

If so, I know SQL Server Developer is bundled with Visual Studio
enterprise and developer editions, but is it obtainable elsewhere ?
or...... Where can I get a copy of the evaluation version ?
Is it a 90-day version that self-destructs ?

Sorry.... I just realized the question about which platforms
the different SQL server editions will run on IS answered in
one of the links you posted.

BTW, if you don't mind, what is the basis for the name ILOPIA ??
I did a search, and I visited your site, but couldn't find the answer.
