My computer starts closing windows and then says Windows is Shutting Down.
Apparently this occurs when an update is installed, but I don't get a box
that says "Your computer needs to be restarted to complete installation. Do
you want to restart now? or Restart later."

How do stop this from happening?

Talk to your network administrator. If your environment is using Automatic
Updates (AU), Software Update Services (SUS), or Windows Server Update
Services (WSUS), this may be by design, and intentional.
