Author look for an index feature on MSDN...

Hi,

I used to have MSDN installed on my local disk for VC++ 6.0. Now for
VC++ 2005, I want to use online MSDN (msdn.microsoft.com). The old MSDN
on my machine has an index feature. It allows you to type a keyword,
such as INT_PTR, then it shows related documents on the left panel
(normally 3 or 4 or so). Then you simply go click the document you
want, which will be shown on the right panel. If you don't find what
you want, then you go to the search feature. My question is whether
online MSDN also has the index feature. Currently I want to get the
definition of INT_PTR, but the searching gives me back several hundred
of documents, that simply contains the key word INT_PTR. But the only
thing I need is a simple definition. I need an index feature rather
than a searching. Can somebody give me a clue how to use the online
MSDN? Thanks for your help.

Tony

ps. Another way is to use the "content" feature. But again, looking for
a simple definition of INT_PTR in the big amount of info (like a book)
is quite painful unless you know where it is.

Use Google

This search : INT_PTR definition site:msdn.microsoft.com gave a likely
answer to your example

Microsoft searches online or offline are hopeless.

Hi Doug,

If the only thing needed here is simply a definition, I think
"searching" causes more troubles than helps, even with a powerful search
engine such as Google. The offline's "index" feature serves very well
in this regard. Typing your keyword will end up with one or two
documents, most likely giving you its definition or relative info. It's
just like a book's index page. I would be very disappointed If MSDN
doesn't index its database. Thanks.

Tony
