Announcement: Upgrades on the way for FTM client

| We are planning to release an update to the File Transfer Manager client later in February that will both improve download performance and add some nice new features:
1. Multi-threaded downloads. FTM 5.0 is the initial release of multi-threaded transfers over a single file. This is a method to provide download acceleration for users that are impacted by high latency Internet connections to the data center from which they are downloading. This will particularly improve the experience of customers who are more distant from our Redmond, Dublin, Singapore, and Tokyo download centers.
2. Full file-level verification after download. The FTM client already validates that blocks of the file are not corrupted during the transfer over the Internet. FTM 5.0 goes one step further to verify file integrity by validating the full file after it has been written to disk. If the client detects a corrupted file on disk the user is given the option to re-transfer it without the need to resubmit a request to MSDN Subscriber Downloads.
3. MSI Installation. FTM 5.0 now supports an MSI option for installing the FTM client directly from our production FTM central web site. This is part of a longer term strategy for the deployment of the FTM client reducing dependencies on ActiveX technologies for FTM client installation. The current default option will be to continue to use an automated ActiveX based installation, but a direct install option will be made available that does not depend on ActiveX.
4. Improved FTM Configuration options - FTM 5.0 will allow customers to throttle traffic to a certain maximum, and will allow up to 4 simultaneous file downloads.
When the FTM 5.0 client is released on MSDN Subscriber Downloads, IE users will see the upgrade of their existing client automatically through the browser. They will be presented with the Microsoft signed CAB file notice and can install the new client. Non-IE users (Firefox, Netscape, etc) will be prompted by the FTM 4.0 client to update to the new FTM 5.0 version.

| I just installed FTM 5.0 today because we were switching to a new build on my
PC, Windows XP and SP2 last w . The subscriber download worked for a couple
of days since and then just kept showing " ... error ... you have Windows XP
and SP2 or ...".
Anyway, after installing FTM 5.0, the first subscriber download work, only
97 MB. Next I was trying to download "SQL server 2000 developer edition", CD
image, 441 MB. The download was slow but working OK until it get to 99%
complete, 0 MB left to be download, 0 second left for download and FTM got
stuck. Resume download so many times, FTM was stil stuck at 99% complete. I
re-download SQL server 2000 one more time, same thing happened. I tried
another download with SQL server 2000 personal edition, same thing occurred.
Does any one know of this problem ? Is there a solution?
