I tried the instructionsprovided in the link below to restore the normal
MSDN search algorithm, remove VS2005 Library and reinstall January 2006
MSDN Library, but still get the same results.

Is there any other way to restore the normal MSDN search algorithm?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom

My followup to that thread included:

If the uninstall alone isn't working, you could try to rename the 'help'
directory to something else before you install January 2006. This should
force a 'new' help directory to be created with all appropriate content
installed.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Where is the 'help' directory you said to rename?

Hi,

I'm running VS2005 (the real thing) and it's associated CD-ROM based
documentation, and I still get the undesirable search behavior. I don't
think I can use Jan 2006 MSDN because it does not integrate with VS2005.
As far as I know the behavior I'm seeing is what we will see in recent
and future versions of MSDN library and VS2005 docs (unless Microsoft
change it soon).

Mike,

I renamed the help directory, "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Help", and reinstalled the January 2006 MSDN Library and the search
algorithm has apparently returned to the normal version, i.e. pre-VS2005.

Thanks,
Tom
