Author Error activating Windows Vista build 5112

I was away on vacation...came back and now the two Windows Vista machines are
requiring activation...fine. Problem is when you go to activate it comes back
with an error 80072EE7. I even tried typing in the activation key again as
that is an option. Neither seems to work properly and both take you back to
the same spot.

I can see where the physical connection is working as the card and hub seem
to respond to each other. I cannot check the software since I cannot log in
to look. If you cannot activate it does not let you log in.

I tried customer service...they send you to the activation department. I
tried the activation department and they send you to customer service. I have
posted on the Vista support groups but have not gotten any takers yet. Was
hoping that someone was monitoring this group which may help.

Thanks in advance.

I am using the web based newsgroup reader and cannot find windows.update
newsgroup. Where is it located?

I contacted MSDN customer service...they gave me a new key to try...problem
is that it is only good for a clean installation. This means that I will have
to try to reinstall all over again.

Does anyone have any way around this at all? This does not seem to be
workable at this point.

Hi CHamlin,

How will this Activation nonsense work in the context of Volume License
customers? I don't really want to find corporate installations suddenly
deciding they're not "Activated".

Set up OE as the newsreader. You will be much better off than that awful =
CDO interface

I have the same error that CHamlin reported. How do I access the
windows.update newsgroup that you indicated. I don't use Outlook Express, so
if you could just point me to the windows.update newsgroup it would be
appreciated.

MSDN customer support states that because Vista is a beta all my support for
this must come from the newsgroups. Thanks.

Jason;

After many searches I was able to find most of what I needed at:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/windowsvi...ps/default.aspx

You can view the newsgroups on-line at that site.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I ended up finding that the issue comes from not
resolving the URL for the Windows Update site. I finally found the
windows.update newsgroup to which Peter was referring:

http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...twareupdatesvcs

Once I did a search for "80072EE7" in the Windows Update section, the first
hit got me in the correct direction. Thanks again.
