Author Renew Universal Via Volume License?

I work for a U.S. Navy R&D activity. My project has maintained a
free-standing MSDN Universal subscription for several years. I think I'm
tired of paying >$2K per year and would like to renew under the Navy/DoD
volume licenses -- but what do I have to order in order to ensure that I
continue to receive media shipments?

I have made enquiries with several vendors, but they don't seem to
understand their price lists any better than I do!

Based I my own past experience, you'd be best off going to your contract
administrator (Navy person).

If this were ordinary software then I would, but in this case I'd have to
teach a contract specialist exactly what MSDN is -- and if I did that
incorrectly then the results could get ... complicated. I'm just trying to
figure out whether I have to order the media as a separate line item. It's
starting to look like I have to buy three years worth to get any savings, in
which case I'll have to involve them in any event.

The three year deal is known as Software Assurance, its a great deal that
allows you to spread your payments over the three year contract while
receiving the latest.

I did just this, but it's pretty hard.

We're on MVL which, fortunately, I admin for the business. I bought the
requisite MSDN Universal subs through VL and when they appeared, there
was an option to import an existing sub, which I did by typing in the
existing SubID. This seemed to work. They key is to buy the MVL sub
*before* the old one expires, then you can import the details as part of
the registration process. Pretty seemless here.

With MVL MSDNs, you'll receive one media kit per 10 MSDN licenses.
