Professional or Enterprise?
|

| Hi,
We're about to get 10-12 MSDN Subscriptions and do not know if we need to go
for the Enterprise or Professional subscriptions.
I cannot find a page that shows the differences or a page with product
comparisons that makes any sense.
We build applications for the industrial automation sector and tend to use
latest technologies. Webservices / mobile devices / ... . As soon as the
Team System software is available we would like to start using that as well.
Can somebody point me to a comparison page or give me some more information
about how to choose between Enterprise or Professional subscriptions.
Regards,
Erik

| Hi Mike,
Yes I've seen those pages. Maybe I didn't formulate the correct question.
MSDN Enterprise comes with Visual Studio 2003 Enterprise Developer and MSDN
Profession comes with Visual Studio 2003 Professional edition; that's clear.
But what functions of Visual Studio Enterprise Developer are not available
in Visual Studio 2003 Professional edition?
For example; the Enterprise Developer product overview
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/p...edoverview.aspx)
doesn't talk about mobile device development while the Professional product
overview
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/p...rooverview.aspx)
does state Mobile application development. Both overviews use a different
way of describing functionality! From the overviews I'm not able to say: "I
need Enterprise Developer" or say "Professional edition will do".
I don't want to find out I should have bought Enterprise Developer in stead
of Professional because a critical feature is not available. Please point me
to a product comparison page I can use to make a good discision. If we're
buying MSDN, we will be buying using a 3-year contract. So mistakes made
last for three years!

| Thanks for the URL, I could not find it directly in the Microsoft maze having looked.
There is a vague description on the MSDN site that suggests that Enterprise includes more Soap tools. However this appears not to be the case.
Erik, what did you buy and how did it go? |
