I've been a Universal MSDN member for 3 years and never have had problems
downloading anything from the site ... until today.

This w I purchased a brand new HP Proliant server and installed Windows
Server 2003 Enterprise Edition for 64 bit systems, along with McAfee Managed
VirusScan, and nothing else. I also turned on the built-in Microsoft firewall
on my network connection.

Finally, I just went to the MSDN subscriber downloads site very excited to
download the SQL Server 2005 ... and no luck.

When I click the "Download Now" button on that page, an info box pops up
entitled "File Transfer Manager" which says: "There was an error launching
the File Transfer Manager. Please try again later or contact your help
provider."

Simultaneously, an "Information Bar" appears at the top of my page in
Internet Explorer which says: "Your security settings do not allow Web sites
to use ActiveX controls on your computer. This page may not display
correctly. Click here for options..."

Unfortunately, when I click the information bar (right and left mouse button
produce the same thing), the only menu option that appears is "Information
Bar Help."

NO OPTION APPEARS TO INSTALL THE ACTIVEX CONTROL.

Moreover, even when I systematically change EVERY option in my security
settings to enable ActiveX, file download and scripting capability, I'm still
faced with this error.

I also have turned off both the LAN firewall, uninstalled McAfee, cleared my
Internet Explorer cache, and rebooted, to no avail.

This is very frustrating .. not being able to download Microsoft subcription
files on a clean install of Windows Server 2003.

Any suggestions? Shouldn't this be easy?
