Author Announcement: Visual Studio 2005 and SQL 2005 are available for download
Andy Boyd \(MS\)

2005-10-27, 6:56 pm

Visual Studio 2005 and SQL 2005 are now available for download. A few
notes:

1. Currently only the CD versions are posted, DVD versions will be
available in the next few days.
2. SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition is posted, Enterprise, Standard, and
Workgroup will also follow in a few days.
3. We have upgraded our download capacity to about 500% for this release,
but do ask for your patience if downloads are running slower than normal for
the next w or two.

Thanks,

I'm rather shocked that VSTO will only be available as a Demo to MSDN
universal subscribers.

Andy Boyd \(MS\)

VSTO (Visual Studio Tools for Office) is available to all Premium level
subscriptions, but Visual Studio Team Suite and the role based subscriptions
are only available to their respective levels.

Are the CD versions the same thing as the DVD versions or will it be usefull
for someone who has downloaded the CD versions to repeat the process later
with the DVD versions?

The problem was due to the vast (and I mean *vast*) number of initiates that
we got the first hour after the announcement - thank you ever so much RSS.
Anyway, I'm updating the site to publish the DVDs instead of CDs which will
cut initiate requests from 8 per user to 1 or 2, and I'm publishing a
workaround here very shortly which bypasses the component that's having an
issue.

I wish. I may treat myself to one since there's really no company discount
on them.

And me, and pretty much saturating our 2Mbps link, too (in UK).

Thanks for sorting it out so quickly.

Andy,

Thanks again for getting those 11001 errors fixed so quickly. I was able to
download the DVD image of VS 2005 Pro at about 550 KB/sec the whole way.

Typo,

I don't know why I wrote VSTO, I meant visual studio team suite.
But I have MSDN universal as an MVP.

I guess, this is not there because it is not finished yet?

Andy Boyd \(MS\)

2005-10-28, 6:56 pm

VSTS is only available to the VSTS level, Universal subscribers get a free
upgrade to one of the role-based subscriptions (which also does not include
VSTS), and upgrade pricing for the VSTS level itself. This afternoon I'll
be posting the 180 day trial version of VSTS to all pro, premium, and role
based levels, however.
