MSDN install does not work!
|

| After installing XP-SP2 everything started falling apart.
I have had to reinstall everything after formatting my HD.
The problem I am having with MSDN is that it is not recognized by VB6. The
library is for VB6 not VB.NET. I have been running it for years, prior to
SP2. I cannot access this library through VB6 (F1, or clicking the Help
button) but I can access it via Program Start.
Any help to solve this will be appreciated. TIA
My SP2 CD is now a coaster.

| Hey Logic,
I just replied to one of your other posts, then noticed this one.
Which Library are you trying to integrate with your VB6 installation?
The last Library that will integrate wit VB 6 is the October 2001 edition.
Any Library after that will only integrate with VS.NET.

| I have been using MSDN January 2002 for years, with no problems.
If you are telling me that by installing .Net Framework I loose access to
the MSDN library then why am I not able to access the 1/2002 library prior to
installing .Net Framework? (I had to reformat my HDD and start over)
And why am I not able to access ANY library in VB6 regardless of the install
process?
I like using VB6. I would like to learn the details of .Net Framework.
So how do I accomplish the task of running them both, which the overview of
..Net Framework instructs is possible?

| You can use both Libraries side by side.
You can install the October 2001 version of the Library to use with your
VB6. This Library fully integrates with the VB6 IDE and is the Library that
contains the Visual Studio 6 docs which you need for VB6 development.
You can aslo install the January 2002 version of the Library which will give
you the VS and Frameworks documentation that shipped with VS.NET. This
Library will not integrate with your VB6 IDE. So F1, context sensitive help,
etc won't work with it when you are in the VB6 IDE. (Starting with VS.NET
we changed the underlying Help technology and Help viewer. It turned out
that these changes we so dramatic that it was unfortunately not feasible to
make them backwards integrate with VS6.)
Hope this helps.

| Thank you Darren,
VB6 now has an MSDN library to access, Oct 2001.
How can I get information on installing, and running WinXP SP2. Even My ISP
states that they are having trouble with customers that install it.
I am totally disgusted with the "Patch".
I am running WinXP Pro with a slew of updates, and there seems to be no end
in sight for additional updates. My "Widows" folder, alone, has 3GB of data.
