Movie creation utility...

| Hello,
Time ago I used a microsoft's utility that came with my msdn's cds that was
able to create a movie with the activity in the computer's monitor. Once the
program started, I was able to record all what happened in my monitor as a
movie file.
Can anyone tell me what the name of that utility was, and perhaps the year
in that microsoft's delivered this program with the msdn subscription ?.

| It was probably Microsoft Camcorder, which came with Office 2000 (under the
VALUEADD directory of the CD).
Microsoft Camcorder was a nice freebie toy, but it had problems with certain
video drivers. Today, you should use Windows Media Encoder. This is a free
download from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/wi...er/default.aspx
I refer people to this tool all the time, and they quickly come back and try
to tell me that there's no such screen capture tool in it. Yes, there is,
but it's not a separate shortcut. You have to launch "Windows Media Encoder"
(under Start > Programs > Windows Media) and on the "New Session" dialog,
there is a Wizard named "Capture Screen."
There are also some popular 3rd party equivalents like Camtasia, but
Camtasia isn't free.
If you are creating tutorials/demos, you really need to check out Wink. It
is freeware which can capture screens as Flash-based animations, which are
very small. It's also easier to add notes on top of the screen captures than
with video formats which require full-fledged video editing tools.
