Please reply to the thread where your original question was instead of
making a new thread. It's just proper newsgroup etiquette, and a lot less
confusing.

To augment Jeff's reply:
We have NO idea who you're thanking or for what (how are we supposed to know
what "this" refers to when it's a new thread?). Kinda defeats the purpose
of a thank-you post, which, personally, I couldn't care less about, and
usually find them to be more annoying than anything else, as you frequently
have to scroll many lines of quoted text just to find out the reply was
nothing but a simple "thank you". It's a waste of time. Granted, it's only a
few seconds or so, but that's for EACH post. When you read perhaps hundreds
of newsgroup posts per day, and if even only one tenth are nothing but a
"thank-you", it adds up to a LOT of wasted time for the readers.
I consider gratitude to be implied and don't care one iota if it's
explicitly stated. But that might just be me.

Also using the correct date would be a nice thing to do too.

'That fixed it' is the best reply for me
- it leaves 'certainty' for posterity

Yes, I like that kind of follow-up, especially after a long thread or if
we're helping to solve a new or difficult problem.

I agree. It's good to know that whatever advice was provided actually solved
the problem (or at least was helpful, lead to a solution, etc.) But even so,
I think discretion comes into play. I mean, somebody that asks why they get
an overflow with this:
A = 4549549
B = CInt(A)
and the solution is provided...well...there's really even no need for a
"That fixed it" reply.

True... but the newbie might not realize that.

[adding to the thread's length] But I don't think this thread would be
anywhere as long if the OP had simply placed his thank-you in the correct
thread rather than create a free-floating, unattached new thread. That (this
thread and its length) is different than whether a thank-you posting is
necessary, good, expected or even warranted.

Okay, dammit: Hence a SUB-thread like this!
ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?

No.<g>
This is a thread alright... it just **should** have been a sub-thread... and
if it were a sub-thread under the proper thread heading, I don't think it
would have had more than one or two messages under it. That was the point I
was trying to make... it is only this long because it was placed incorrectly
to begin with.

In my attempt to stop this thread from becoming another "VB6, VB2005, or
Something Else" thread...
Thanks; That fixed it!

I already tried that 4 posts ago. Try a nazi reference; the trick is you
have to really mean it.
