Starting VB app causes Windows Installer to start
|
|
|
| When I start a VB app on a Windows XP SP2 machine, I get a dialog from
Windows Installer with the following dialog: Please wait while Windows
configures Microsoft Office XP... Gathering required information.
If I sign on as a different user, I don't get the dialog. I thought it was
an issue with his profile, so I re-created it but I still get the same
error. The program had worked fine until a couple of days ago. There
hasn't been any changes to the machine at all.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

| You might try microsoft.public.windows.msi
I've seen a similar question asked there. If I
remember correctly the advice involved figuring
out what software didn't properly finish its install
earlier and is now trying to finish.

You delete (accident maybe) a binary component that installer registered.
Alway use remove from Control Panel to remove Installer jobs. Try to find
original msi file, install and remove.

| Best thing to do is let install / repair the Office installation.

| Strangely enough, I started getting the exact situation just a couple of
days ago. Haven't found out what caused it or how to get around it.

| Did it happen after installing software or an update or cleaning the
registry?
Just let it finish - that usually solves it..
