I've never done any web apps but these guys support just about everything
known to man.... I've been using them for a couple of years now. Not too
bad.

Thanks. From what I can see, they appear to offer
unlimited file/data transfer bandwidth for $5/month.
Can that be right?
I don't see anything specific in their list of supported
stuff about VB6 CGIs.

Reporting back --
I signed up at webhost4life (hereafter: WHFL). I hope it works
out in the long run, and I fully expecet it to, but so far, it has been
pretty bad.
It's like these guys have only been in business for a month. There
is very liitle in their FAQs, for example. Several links don't work.
Their multi-file upload program won't run on my Dell, and when
I click on their link for instructions, the page won't load.
The first time I tried to upload by FTP, that wouldn't work. I went
back and used WHFL's upload page to upload a single file, then
went back to FTP and it worked, but cut me off at 100MB rather
than advertised 1G. I contacted tech support and they fixed the
problem, but one wonders why the problem existed in the first
place.
They refer to a "control panel", but there is no page identified by
that name. You pretty much have to figure everything out by
trial and error.
Other web hosts that I have used simply gave me a URL and
I went to my domain name provider and pointed the names at
folders at that URL. At WHFL, they only give you a temporary
URL and you are supposed to go to your domain name provider
and enter WHFL's DNS numbers. This also means that your email
gets routed through WHFL. Since it takes 2-3 days for the DNS
change to take effect, you are without email during that time.
My brother also got a web site at WHFL and had the same
problems, plus when he changed DNS's, it wouldn't work.
WHFL's tech support had to fix a problem to get it to work.
I have 3 domain names. When I tried to aim the names at
different folders in my web site, WHFL said that it would
cost $15 for the 2nd and 3rd names. Their ad says "unlimited
domain names per account". This does not imply (nor do they
ever tell you) that you have to pay $15/name to actually USE
them on the site, unless you want them all to point to the same
page, which is very unlikely for most hobbyists.
Bottom line:
I like the non-case-sensitivity.
They claim that VB6 CGI's will work, but I haven't tried yet.
False (or at least: misleading) advertising re: domain names.
Very, very poor structure and operability of their own site.
Fairly prompt and satisfactory online tech support.
Claimed unlimited hits/throughput will be nice,
unless this turns out to be a false claim too.
