How to show emoticons in chat window (chat messenger application)

Im creating a messenger application similar to MSN MESSENGER using
C#.NET
My question is that is there any way to show emoticons and text
simultaneously in a chat window(just like MSN MESSENGER do).
Right now I am using RichTextBox to show and write the messages.
Is RichTextBox capable to append images in between text.

any help would be appreciated.
