AAC M4P file format

I created a C# app that catlogs all my music by reading the mp3 tag
information
within each mp3 file. Recently i have been purchasing AAC/M4P files from
iTunes. I would like to read the file information (artist, genre etc)
from with in the file, much like i currently do for my mp3s. I know the
the Tag & Rename application can read this information by i can not find
the file format. Any ideas ?
