ASP .NET - Can't open webform in designer

Can't open webform in designer

I'm trying to create a website that uses two projects. One is an ASP.Net
project with web forms, the second is a class library. When i add a
reference to the class library from the asp.net project i get the following
error when i try to open a webform in the designer.

"The file failed to load in the Web Form designer. Please correct the
following error, then load it again: Invalid URL."

When I remove the reference to the other project, things return to normal.
How can i reference a class library project without the above error?
