Unix peripherals are called devices. Any device connecting to a Unix
system requires device driver software. If the system already has a
driver for the device, then all is well and good. However, if it does
not, you have to look to the device's manufacturer for the driver. If
the manufacturer does not have a driver for Unix, then you must do
without, or write a driver yourself. This last option is not
recommended unless you have had a class in writing device drivers for Unix.
