It works ! Eureka !
I copied your lines as a trained monkey and only now I
figured out there were a couple of typos.
In fact the if statement should not have a "(" and there is a "]"
missing.

if ([catch {check_hist_aint_option} results != 0} {

Well, being adicted to C/C++ the "(" enclosing the if-statement clause
looked perfect to me ....
