Author TclXML and TclDOM problems

I just downloaded the most recent TclXML and TclDOM files off
SourceForge. Upon installing them and doing "package require xml" and
"package require dom", they both report version 3.0. However, the
documentation from the same pages indicates that 3.1 is supported.

I also get errors trying to use the "trim" and "serialize" methods of
TclDOM. I don't think I have any compiled parsers installed, but I'm not
sure where to look for that.

In addition, the installers don't seem to run if started from a
directory containing spaces, like My Documents. Naughty naughty. I
expected better of such a well-known package.

Any hints here? Or is this just How It Is?

TIA!
