Why is there no book for this combo like there is for say php+mysql?

Because nobody has written it yet. Sorry to disappoint... I agree that
there *should* be a book.

But what are you missing - AFAIK, AolServer is well documented and also
the part how it works with postgres and ns_db pools. The best starting
point is the annotated configuration reference (near the bottom):
