I am using the Tclodbc 2.3 module and am trying to implement a heartbeat
function to check that the database connection is still valid.
Unfortunately tclodbc does not seem to have a function to check connectivity
so my first thought is to merely issue a simple query against a table that
is known to contain data to see if I get any results back.

Any other thoughts on how to approach this?
