tablelist noninteractive cell editing

I am using Csaba Nemethi's TableList (v 3.7) and wish to
non-interactively edit the cell contents. I am able to bind a mouse
click to a proc that will grab that cells contents and display it in a
text widget. I know how to use the text widget in that I can capture
the user edited content but I am unable to figure out how to put those
results from the text widget back to that cell's contents. I need a
non-interactive means of saving data to an existing cell. Is that
possible?
