Could be worse. One of the MS Windows languages (VB?) got a bug.

| Oh, the bug was really good. Still makes me laughing and grin after an hour.
What about a ferret? Small, nimble, rapid, beautifull, different colours
and shapes, may bite very harmful ...

You should have seen Melissa Chawla when she dressed-up as the bug for a
Halloween costume. That was before my time at Scriptics, but I saw a picture.
Unfortunetly, I don't have a scan of it.

To add some comments to the bestiary:
- Frogs have an interesting life cycle
with several metamorphoses ... What
Wiki pages does that remind you of?
- Frogs are better digestible than
lizards, at least they appear on the menu
in several Western countries, whereas lizards
and Komodo dragons do not.
- Frogs add a lot more fun to part 4 of the
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy than lizards.
(And Komodo dragons are not at all related to the
Fuorlornin Fire Dragons - who as we all know
are extinct).
- Frogs, especially the ones from South-America,
are very colourful (and poisonous but that is
not a positive distinction, IMHO - so I will leave
that out)

According to <sigzero@gmail.com>:
:Komodo gets a "dragon"...
:
:Perl gets a "lizard"...
:
:Tcl...gets...a..."frog"?
What frog? For that matter, what lizard? Perl is typically a camel.
Expect had a primate on its O'Reilly book, the Tcl/Tk tools book had
an extension cord, and the Tcl / Tk in a Nutshell had a bird.
The 'official' logo for Tcl is a feather.

Frogs are often familiars for wizards in fairy tales and fantasy...,
are increadibly (re)productive, beautiful to look at etc. etc.

Actually it is. For the frog, that is.

Oh, I was wondering about that myself.
Hey, at least ours is alive. The Perl one looks like it's splatted on
a car bumper.

You'd have thought that a language with a feather as an icon would have
a bird as its mascot. <shrug>

Ah yes, the new logo is part of a rebranding for the entire
range of Tcl solutions at ActiveState. This will be done
over a transitional period, starting with the Tcl Dev Kit.
Why a frog? Critters are popular nowadays, and we recently
redesigned the Komodo (dragon) and Perl (gecko) logos. Since
it was hard to find a feathered friend to match (you have to
consider the style, resize issues, etc), we cast out wider and
decided on the frog. It is in fact modelled on the colorful
South American varieties. We've had various comments on the
existing feather logo, the most humorous being that it looks
like a banana when shrunk to small icon size.
There is no implied meaning in any of the logos, but as Arjen
noted, the frog has many appealing qualities. In addition to
showing that we have a leg up on the competition, and are
leaps and bounds in front of the them. :D

The ActiveState Perl logo is actually a gecko.

Not to mention that it is a Frog Prince. He is keeping it secret,
without the crown and all. Like Tcl is a well-kept secret in most
places :P

I like it. You take the leap of faith -
"kiss the frog", and get a prince/princess.

You know I never expected this much of a thread on my cute comment. : )
The frog graphic is actually very nice. ActiveState needs to do a
Cafepress store with their logo items. : )
