VisualWorks COM server not working in Vista

| I have a VisualWorks COM server that works fine in Window 2000 and XP.
But it won't create a valid ActiveX object in Windows Vista. Is this a
know problem? Is there a fix? Thanks.
All the best,

| Is anyone testing VW on Vista? I cannot get my COM server to work on
Vista. Cincom says Vista is not a supported OS!!!
Thanks, ASK

| Vista officially shipped at the end of November, which was getting
towards the end of our release cycle for OST 7.1.2 and VW 7.5. So we
aren't supporting Vista with the winter release (or with prior releases
for that matter). We should have support by the summer release, which
will likely be in late summer 2007.

| That's a weak reply. There have been beta's and release candidates for
a long time. Now that we waited 5 years for Vista we have to wait 9 or
10 months for Cincom to support it. There will be a lot of people
pressured to migrate by their customers, including us, and our
customers don't want to hear us tell them we have to wait until late
summer. Intel Mac was somewhat understandable because you had to wait
to actually get the hardware, but for Vista you could have been testing
all year long, you don't need to wait for the "official release" to
start.

| There's a reason you need to wait. Back before NT 3.51, we used to
announce support for an OS in the release immediately following an OS
release. VW worked just fine on NT 3.51 beta. However, when gold
shipped, it no longer worked fine - there were all sorts of problems.
As a result, we decided to be more cautious, and delay official support
until we could get a good grasp of the issues.
With Vista, we've had pre-release versions in house, and done tests.
We didn't detect any issues in our tests with the pre-releases, but -
lo and behold - the gold has issues. There's simply <no way> we can
offer immediate support.
VW 7.5 is in code freeze right now, because we are coming up to our
winter release. We cannot risk opening that back up, because other
problems could crop up as we tried to address this problem. We will
support Vista as soon as we can, and that may be before the summer
release - but there's no guarantee of that.

I haven`t tried Vista yet...
But I know that a COM server and client should be binary compatible.
In the betas of XP x64 there were tow versions of Internet Explorer (64
and 32 bits). You often had to use the 32-bit version because the
64-bit version
couldn't host most existing AciveX plugins.
Not sure if that helps.
