Absolutely right.

Greg and John worked tirelessly to arrange a soft landing for VAST. IBM
could easily have thrown it in the trash can.

I am actually surprised that they didn't since trashing VAST would have
forced customers (like JWARS) who have no intention of -ever- leaving
Smalltalk to migrate somewhere. Instead, the deal with Instantiations lets
JWARS continue down our preferred path, which deprives IBM of some revenue,
however small.
