| We have the following contract position
Powerbuilder Programmer Analyst
12 months contract
Toronto, Canada
The Programmer Analyst will gather information concerning a user's
business needs directly from the user communities, design efficient
system enhancements that meet those needs, and coordinate
implementation of the changes. Duties include writing program
specifications, programming solutions, leading small projects, and
mentoring junior staff on programming techniques, as assigned. The
Programmer Analyst will also provide on-going production system support
and perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience
College or University degree with 5+ years programming and 3+ years
Power Builder, Oracle PL/SQL work experience is required. Java, .Net,
C#, ASP, VB, VBA, Perl, and Transact SQL experience would be an asset.
Work experience in a manufacturing, sales or finance environment is
preferable.
Candidate must have a proven ability to deliver successful
applications. Candidates must be self-motivated, team players able to
perform in a fast passed environment. Candidates must have strong
verbal and written English skills.
Job Duties/Skills
Understands the company's general business functions and has a
conceptual understanding of each unit's activities.
Has working knowledge of the assigned application systems.
Is able to communicate with system users in business terms.
Comprehends the relationships between business activities and the
application systems. Able to determine the impact of system changes to
the business, and v ice versa.
Programming Skills
Have solid programming skills with the assigned languages and tools.
Power Builder 7, 8 and PL/SQL.
Develops efficient, well-tested code that meets departmental standards.
Ensures that work is thoroughly tested and smoothly implemented.
Determines necessary production turnover tasks, prepares required
documents, and follows through to ensure smooth implementation.
Handles on-call responsibilities for production systems.
Mentors junior staff on programming techniques.
Able to prepare accurate program design specifications which others can
follow.
Analysis Skills
Understands the Company System Lifecycle Methodology and prepares basic
project deliverables, as assigned.
Works with system users to determine project requirements.
Prepares time and cost estimates for assigned projects and tasks.
Demonstrates a basic understanding of system design techniques,
including efficiency and controls.
Develops test plans for programming assignments.
Prepares code and support documentation for production implementation.
Prepares accurate program specifications, which others can follow, as
assigned.
Contributes to project reviews.
Possesses understanding of the system deployment process and
correlation with application development responsibilities.
