| Do you drive a 30-ton tank to work?
When I introduced the VMDD Tech's sockSvr on the
comp.soft-sys.powerbuilder forum, a top PowerBuilder expert with many
years of PB experience wondered why there are still people like me
building new web servers. He also wondered why he would need sockSvr
when there are many alternatives like JBoss, Tomcat, Oracle 9IAS,
Websphere, WebLogic, etc.
The answer will be obvious when you ask yourself this question: Do you
use a 30-ton tank to drive to work, to school, or to go shopping?
Of course, not. Even if the tank is given free, the learning curve is
steep, the operating cost is huge, and the impractical-bility of the
solution should make you turn down the offer. Then, why have you not
used sockSvr to write Content-Rich applications? For your information,
sockSvr requires less than 200 KB of space and runs comfortably with 6
MB of memory while other web servers are disk and memory hog and have
tons of things you don't need. Personally, when people give me what I
don't needs, I say thanks but I
don't accept.
