Author Borland license transfer question

I bought a copy of Delphi 7 Architect on ebay. The owner was not upgrading,
but changing to a completely different programming environment. I dind't
ever try to register it, but ended up changing my mind about the project I
was going to tackle and resold it on ebay. The buyer just contacted me and
send the registration is not transferable. I see used copies of Delphi
being sold all the time. Does Borland not allow any transfer of license? I
can understand if the seller used this copy to be eliglble for upgrade, but
this is not the case (at least that is what he told me).

Thanks,
Robin

AFAIK, it is legal to transfer a license. The original owner must
transfer the original CDs and backup copies (if any). Further,
if the license was an upgrade, the original owner must also transfer
all the items in the upgrade chain.

However, to get a definitive answer, you should contact Borland.

Borland will NOT transfer a license for software purchased on ebay. I
went through this a few months ago. The seller said that he had never
registered the software (C++ Builder) but the online registration
would not work so I contacted Borland and was informed that they Do
NOT recognize sales on ebay and Will NOT register the software.

PS-- I contacted the ebay seller and he said "Fu*k You, I got the
money". I purchased the C++ Builder 6.0 from Borland.

Hard Lesson Learned...

Sorry to hear that.

Hard lesson learned here too! I should have checked into that before I
bought it. And definately before I resold it! Well, it's going to cost me a
pretty penny, but I'll refund the buyer his money and try to see if the
person I bought it from will refund it to me. If not.... well there's worse
things in life I guess than an expensive lesson. :)

Thanks for your answer,
Robin
